My life

I haven't been blogging for a while so i just wanted to explain why ...

Ok, I decided to visit my long lost grandma, who i haven't seen for over 7 years as she lives in Spain. I went out there alone and felt quite brave doing this, considering i haven't seen her for such a long time! Whilst I was there, I found out that I had two cousins who I never even knew about! They are called Phoebe and Amelia and they were both absolutely adorable! Phoebe is 7 and when I was out there it was Amelia's first birthday so it was really special for me to celebrate that with her and the rest of the family I didn't know I even had! I was in Spain for 10 days and I had such a great time. The food was good, especially the traditional paella and the sun just didn't stop shining the entire time I was there - in fact it got too hot sometimes so I had to spent many afternoons indoors :( but hey ho and a bottle of rum.
Whilst I was out there I missed my boyfriend so much so I made the expensive mistake of calling him, texting him and sending him thousands of picture messages practically everyday so I dread to think what my phone bill will be like at the end of the month! However, whilst we were messaging each other he told me that he wanted to treat me so that afternoon he went online and booked two tickets to the south of France ... The thing was, he booked the tickets to depart the UK on the Saturday which meant the day I was travelling back from Spain, I would then be hopping onto a different aircraft and heading straight to France. It was a tiring day but at the same time really exciting and spontaneous, however, I didn't have a chance to unpack my clothes from Spain and pack nice new fresh things :( But oh well, I didn't let that put a dampener on things; it was still a great trip!
We went to France for just a week but all in all, I was out of the UK for 17 consecutive days so it's been difficult to get hold of the Internet and start making blog posts :(
On top of my holidays not allowing me to blog more often, I have also had a lot of things on my mind.... I'm currently heading into my final year at university and have just received my results back from my second year, showing that I have failed 2 units, this means that I will have to juggle resitting these units on top of studying hard on my final year units. I can see it being a very stressful year ahead. In addition to all this bad news, I had a phone call from the letting agency who my boyfriend and I rent our flat  from and they said that we aren't able to renew our lease on the property so we need to move out in just 2 months!!! Things feel like they're spiraling out of control and I feel like I need another holiday to recover from all this news but here comes more bad news ... I lost my job about a month ago in a really nice, new bar and consequently I haven't been able to find another job :( Sorry for all this negativity! It's just nice sometimes to let it all out - hope you don't mind! I'm not usually like this, but I have a lot of my plate at the moment and thought it was best to let you guys know whats going on. Thank you for all the support everyone's given me so far, I really appreciate it! I will upload the pictures of Spain and France for my next blog post so stay tuneeeeeeeddddd

Nail art

Nail art is something that has recently become very fashionable and it would seem that almost every girl is now not only fighting over what colour to use but also what design to have on the nail itself.

Nail art is a difficult task, believe me. I have a very unsterdy hand, especially when it comes to painting my right fingers with my left hand, gosh that's always a challenge! But with nail art you not only have to paint your nails first but also create a funky design over the top!

Here are a few of my own little creations! Hope you like them!

As you can see from this image, I have painted my nails pink and then sprinkled some colourful tiny nail art balls onto the nails itself and then left them to dry for about 20 - 25 minutes. As you see, I have only put these balls on 3 of my fingers and with the other two i used the edge of a nail polish brush to create these stripes.

What do you think?

Below is another image of how I've decorated my nails. I have used a purple nail polish and left it to dry for about 20 minutes. I then applied a glitter over the top. Hope you like it.

Let me know if you need anymore information on how to decorate your nails :)

The personalised coca cola bottles!

Its funny how easily amused I can be sometimes. When the personalized coca cola bottles first came out I used to search and search the shelves in the hope that one day I would eventually find my name. I soon gave up on this after receiving many strange looks from passers by. However, the other day when I was catching up with my friend who has just had a beautiful baby girl named Amelia in Cafe Nero I saw my personalized coke bottle! I was chatting away when I saw the word 'Amy' plastered over the bottle in the fridge.

Finally I've found my coca cola name!

It just goes to show, when you stop looking for something it comes to you! It's typical that after many occasions where I've ruined shelves in supermarkets by desperately trying to find my name, all of a sudden its on the front row of the shelf glaring at me.

This is an image of me sat in Cafe Nero holding baby Amelia seconds before i spotted my coca cola bottle! Isn't she just adorable shes only 2 weeks old bless her ...

I've found that this principle of 'when you stop looking for something, it finds to you' is apparent in many things in life for example, the night I met my partner was the night I was out on a girls night and wasn't looking for a guy.

Below is an image of me and my partner, Lloyd on Brighton pier.

It just goes to show, the more you want something, the more harder it becomes to find. So girls and guys who are reading this post, my advice to you is stop searching for something because the moment you stop will be the moment it finds you.
I'm always interested to hear other peoples thoughts on my posts, so if you have had any experiences where something in life finds you the moment you stop looking then comment below, its always nice to hear other stories :)

If I won the lottery I would buy ...

  • Alexa oak soft buffalo £795.00
  • Effie hobo £575

  • Alexandra McQueen - Tulip Sleeve Pencil Dress £1, 165.00
  • Karen Millen Jersey dress £250.00
Jack wills Gledholt Duffle Coat £279

I love the classic pieces here. Mulberry handbags are an absolute MUST in my opinion, i love the soft leather and the beautiful handcrafted British designs of the bags. Similarly, Alexandra Mc Queen is a very talented designer and I love lots of her clothes, however this dress stood out the most to me because im a very girlie girl and if I had £1,165.00 to splash out on whatever I like, I would definately chose this gorgeous sexy pink dress. On a tighter budget, I chose the Karen Millen jersey dress because this looks very classy and elegant. The slit up one side of the leg gives this dress an edgey look which I think is a really good idea. Jack Wills is one of my favourite shops because I love the Traditionally British look that they have created in the shops and the clothes. This coat costs £279.00 and I think its definately worth every penny. In my opinion, buying a decent coat is an investment because they generally last years. This coat is a classic shape so you wouldnt have to worry about it not being fashionable. It also looks really warm and comfy!

If you won the lottery, what would you buy?

My trip to Barbados

Let’s be honest, we all need a holiday. When the sun starts making an appearance for the first time, we Brits feel it a necessary treat to escape off into the hottest climate possible and strip right down into our t - shirts and shorts to reveal the ghostly white body that the UK’s winter unfortunately left us with.

In July, myself and partner landed ourselves in the Caribbean island, Barbados. After working round the clock to save for this luxurious and expensive holiday we felt fully prepared to chill out and allow lots of Rum to be poured down our necks.

The novelty of waking up at stupid o clock in the morning to get on an aeroplane always seems to excite me, despite the thought of travelling for over 9 hours to even get there. I still got that childhood buzz you get when you wake up on Christmas morning to find all the presents that have been left for you.

I guess the flight was something to look forward too as well, considering we were travelling upper class there and back to the Caribbean with Virgin Atlantic. Having champagne and cocktails handed to you on a click of a finger and dining in style by filling up on a delicious three course meal before turning the chair into a bed and snuggling up with a soft duvet wrapped around you, watching the latest films.

Holiday mode is one of those rare moments you get where all the worries and stresses seem to just go away and you can always count on getting that feeling of utter relief when you board the plane, the sort of relief that makes you want to shout: ‘Goodbye England, Hello holiday’

When we finally arrived in Barbados, we grabbed the nearest taxi waiting outside the airport which took us directly to our villa. With bob Marley, no woman, no cry playing subtly in the background of the taxi, I knew this was going to be a chilled out holiday.
Driving through banana fields and chatting to our taxi driver about cultural events happening throughout our stay in the country was making our spirits run high with things to do and places to see. Despite being thrown into the Barbadian culture so quickly after what seemed to be an eternity spent on the plane, the weather didn’t go unnoticed. It was absolutely pouring it down with rain when we arrived; something you don’t expect when you book to go away to a Caribbean destination.

Our 10 day stay was truly unforgettable; we woke up bright and early most mornings to make the most of our stay and generally kick - started them with a large and very strong coffee frappacino to kill the jetlag and keep us buzzing for the days adventures.

Waking up to the smell of bacon and eggs and hearing the banging and crashing from the kitchen where my clumsy partner was romantically cooking up a typically English fry up. Each morning, the pair of us would have breakfast on the porch, listening to the birds tweeting and watching the sun rise.

Hopping on and off buses was something we got very familiar with doing, after virtually travelling around the entire country on one epic day when my partner was on a true mission to find some good surfing spots. The buses out there are out of this world, you pay $2.00 for a bus ride to any location and when boarding the bus you are greeted by a true stereotypical Caribbean man, dreadlocks and all!
Inside the bus is beautifully artistic; covered with colourful graffiti clearly done by a professional; it came as a real culture shock to me, especially with the local music booming so loud that can be heard a mile away, I’m sure!

I heard several mixed reviews about the safest and type of people in Barbados before I left, which left me with negative impressionable ideas. However, I now couldn’t disagree more. I found that everyone I came into contact with were absolutely lovely and had so much time for myself and partner. I personally didn’t have any problems with security and I would even go as far as saying that collectively, Barbadians are the nicest bunch of people that I have been so fortunate to meet.

Throughout our stay, we learnt that when a Barbadian says: ‘That’s some good shit’, they mean that’s some good shit! But that’s a whole new different blog post.

All in all, Barbados was a great holiday destination for us, as there were plenty of things to keep us busy and at the same time there was always the relaxing side of the holiday, where we could put our feet up, read a book and just unwind by the inviting pool.

My partners never happy to sit and sunbathe all day, so for most of our days we were exploring the country and involving ourselves truly into the culture of the beautiful country. Swimming in the rough Atlantic Bathsheba Sea whilst my partner was surfing is only one example of the crazy and wild times Barbados exposed us to.
Culturally, we were tied into going to an all day drinking event to celebrate the ‘end of the rum season.’ This was an absolutely amazing experience and one which I will never forget. The streets were all closed off as buses with dancers on them, dressed in sequins and different coloured diamonds costumes were spraying the crowds with Malibu and getting everyone dancing with the loud music playing.
The event was so massive that not only the police on site, but also the army were present!

Barbados is an amazing country and I feel so privileged that I have visited and got so involved with the culture, people and different places to explore on my trip. It just goes to show that there is such an exciting and different life outside the UK to be appreciated. I hope you like my post!

West coast of barbados!

If you’re fortunate enough to be visiting the Caribbean island, Barbados then I’m sure you’ll be blown away by the magnificent country, crystal blue sea and incredible people. I want to share with you a few recommendations of when to visit, where to stay, what tourist attractions to visit, the best places to dine and the mode of transport to use when on a budget. (I hope this information is useful for you.)

First things first, it is important to do some research before booking the ‘holiday of a lifetime’ especially when visiting Barbados as the weather is something to certainly be aware of. Barbados doesn’t have the typical four seasons like most countries as it is so close to the equator, therefore there is the wet season and the dry season. With this in mind, the best months to visit are January through to April as this is the driest and least humid season with temperatures reaching highs of 24 – 28 degrees. The official hurricane season runs from June to November, with most major storms occurring August to October so avoid booking a trip between these months because you will probably be disappointed! Unfortunately, when my partner and I visiting the island, we hadn’t done our research and we travelled in August. When we arrived we were greeted with rain and a brewing storm instead of sunshine so it's essential to take note of this advice in order to have a sunny holiday.

The hotels in Barbados are truly amazing so there is no real need to search and search for the best accommodation because every hotel is designed to facilitate every tourists need. My partner and I stayed in a self catering villa in the west coast as we were on a tight budget however, we explored many hotels and each one never failed to disappoint us. If I were to return to the island, I would definitely stay in the 'Colony Club' hotel in the West coast, St James, as it is a 5* resort with 20 luxury poolside rooms with private pool access. You are welcomed to many watersport activities as well as having live entertainment brought to you every evening. http://www.fivestaralliance.com/luxury-hotels/bridgetown/colony-club
There are lots more other hotels such as the Sandy Lane hotel, All Seasons Resort, Crystal Cove hotel, etc.

In regards to venturing outside the resort, the island is pretty safe, so while in some other Caribbean countries many holidaymakers only venture out on the occasional excursion, in Barbados you can explore freely and you should because it's such a beautiful country with many untouched natural white sandy beaches.

There are many tourist attractions that my partner and I visited on our trip and without doing these we wouldn’t have become so fond of the spectacular country. In my opinion, the wildlife reserve is something that must be done by everyone visiting, as it’s a real eye opener to the wildlife that the island has to offer. You’ll get a chance to see the colourful parrots, giant tortoises, lizards, monkeys and amazing flowers gardens.

The ‘End of Rum season’ festival is something that can’t be missed as the locals all join together in a spectacular event to celebrate the end of the rum season. All the roads are closed off and everyone gets drunk off rum whilst the ladies dance up and down the street in fancy costumes on the tops of lorries blaring loud Caribbean music. Of course, it depends what time of year you visit Barbados, as this event is held in August however, if you are in the country during this month it is definitely worth going to as it is such a cultural event that will quite literally blow you away!

The best spots for snorkeling are the quiet, deserted areas, as tourists haven’t had the chance to scare the fish away. When my partner and I went snorkeling, we got on a bus to Speightstown which is about a 10 minute journey from where we were staying in Holetown, west coast and boy was it worth it! We saw all sorts of amazing fish, as well as a baby turtle and a barracuda – thank goodness the barracuda wasn’t in a school, as I probably wouldn’t be here right now to tell you the story. So, when snorkeling rural places be aware of your surroundings at all times to ensure that if something was to appear out of nowhere, there is a quick escape route from the water.

The south coast of the island, ‘Bathsheba’ is the best place for surfing, as the sea is the rough Atlantic, which creates ideal conditions to catch some good waves. The lifeguard is always happy to rent out his board for tourists to have a ride on, and there is surfing instructors on the beach teaching people how to surf. There are a few quaint but informal restaurants/ cafes to eat in after you’ve come out of the sea, and there are shower facilities nearby to use freely.

With the exception of hotel rates, most things on the island are priced in Barbados dollars (BDS$) However, you can usually pay in US dollars, though you'll be given change in Barbados dollars. The exchange rate is fixed at BDS$1.98 to US$1. It is important for tourists to understand the currency before handing over the cash, as you might find that some locals will try rip you off so be aware.

It takes roughly 8hrs:30 to get from London to Barbados, and eight hours flying back to London. If you are thinking about going to Barbados on holiday then its definately worth the visit! I hope the information has been useful and you've enjoyed reading this blog post!

I love a good bargain!

As the title says, I love a good bargain! In fact, i'm slightly addicted at the moment to buying things at a cheap price. I mean, why pay lots of money when you can buy something similar for half the price?

I've recently moved into a flat with my boyfriend so everytime I go shopping, I am always drawn into buying something new for my new home, be it a cushion, canvas, rug, etc - I just love putting my stamp on my home! My top favourite shops to buy home goodies from are: TKMAXX home and NEXT home. These shops are my absolute favourite because I never have trouble finding a bargain in TKMAXX and NEXT is where i go for my finishing touches! I recently brought a gorgeous cushion from NEXT that was £12.00 (so quite expensive for a cushion) but it had a lovely quote from William Shakespeare on it, saying: When I saw you I fell in love and you smiled because you knew - Below is a picture of my cushion!

I also brought a lovely canvas for my kitchen that seems to be very fashionable at the moment. It's got an Italian feel to it as it's a list of several different coffees, written in English and Italian. I brought this from TKMAXX and it had been reduced from £30.00 down to £3.00! Can you beleive it? It was the best bargain i have ever picked up and I walked out a very happy girl to say the least haha ...

The same day I brought a black and white picture of a gerbri flower in a lovely thick wooden frame, again this was an AMAZING bargain and cost me £3.00 instead of £20.00! I think its definately worth waiting for a bargain instead of buying these things at an expense. As much as I love making my home nice and putting my personal touch into it, I still feel that if you can get the things you love for a cheap price, its definately worth the wait! So if you have your own home then take a look in TKMAXX to grab a bargain!

I love the French shabby chic look that is very fashionable at the moment. I brought my 'HOME' cushion from Matalan for £12.00 which is quite expensive but I had some birthday money left over so I just had to buy this! I think its really nice to have a few expensive cushions because it makes the front room look more homely. This is one of my favourite cushions! As you can tell, all my bits and bobs are all cream and mushroom brown colours because I think these colours are very in trend at the moment and I love the room being a blank canvas as it allows me to decorate the room however I like.

I think Primark Home is also a really good place to shop. I recently went in and brought a lovely canvas which was £3.00 (I must have a thing for buying things for £3.00 haha!) Its has a lovely message which is why I wanted it in my living room because its really sweet and romantic! The style is also very fitting to my lounge, because it looks very rustic, shabby chic and 'oldie worldie'.

I would love to see your finishing touches to your home, so why not let me know how you decorate your front room?
It's always nice to get feedback on what you guys think of my blog posts, so let me know what you think of my bargains! If you know only shop for a bargain please let me know where you shop too! :)

What a sight!

On the 8th June 2013, I was working in a new Bar & Kitchen called the 'Wild Lime' in Portswood, Southampton. When I couldn't help but notice a crowd of mature men and women swarming past the kitchen window with nothing less that a pair of knickers on! So, me being a keen journalist, I ran to the scene with my iPhone and started taking as many pictures as i could as well as asking them why they are cycling with no clothing on. I was completely overwhelmed by what i was witnessing but i couldn't resist a few snaps here and there because it was just such a random occasion. I didn't have long to talk to them about why they are taking part in this event because they had only been stopped by the traffic lights, but in the course of about a minute, i discovered that the event is called, 'World naked bike ride' and its in aid of supporting and raising awareness to more Eco-friendly ways of transportation, such as bikes.

If you were lucky enough to witness the 'World Naked bike ride' like me, then please share some pics or let me know what some of the riders said to you about their experience! I would love to find out more about this great event that, in theory is helping to save our planet!

Peace!
